Review: Martin D18V
Rating you give the Martin D18V: 5 - Best thing I ever played

Likes:  Apart from just the Martin quality that you would expect. The tone and playablity of this guitar is amazing. Comes from the factory with 13's on it but still plays as easy as any guitar I have owned with 11's or 12's the modified v-neck is great, it took about 5 secs to fall in love with the ease that you can grab open chords, with the little bit less wood down by the nut, but it also has enough beef as you move up the neck to make barr chords easy to grab also. This guitar has the best balanced tone from bass to treble that I have ever heard, can't wait to try some miked recordings with it.

Dislikes: I really can't find any. I have read some other post about the tuners, but I can't understand the complaints. Being a V series Martin did use open back tuners, but they work perfectly and the guitar stays in tune, the only difference between these tuners and the close case ones on other guitars is there is a bit of maintenance needed, once or twice a year.

Additional Comments: I am 100% satisfied with this guitar.  It kind of makes me wonder why Martin made so many changes over the years, by going back to their roots with the Vintage D-18 they really went back to probably the best D18 they ever made. I would also like to say that doing business with Maury was a pleasure, not only did I get a great price on this guitar, but the personal service I received was better than most online dealers.

Like about the Martin D-18V:
(1)attractive tortoise/celluloid binding.
(2)fast 1-11/16" neck width.
(3) its lightness.
(4) comfortable neck profile.
(5) overall sound rich & deep with good clarity).
(6) price.
(7) its basic, workhorse design.

Dislike about the Martin D18V:  Nothing.

Additional Comments:  Martin produces a lot of varying D-18 models.  This particular one is often overlooked or shied away from because some folks don't care for the narrower 1-11/16" neck width and the modified V neck profile.  These characteristics, especially the neck profile is what gives this guitar its unique sense of ergonomics and feel.  The legendary Martin sound factor is a given.  Unfortunately there are some who can only play a 1-3/4" neck width and this is an important issue for those who are struggling to get clean notes off at the first position(s) of the once standard 1-11/16" nut design area.  The soft V profile is great for getting good leverage around the upper neck and it gradually rounds out a bit towards the 12th to 14th frets.  If Martin were to eventually modify these features, it would no longer be a D-18V.
