Date: 9/16/09 Review: Martin D-41 Special Rating you give the Martin D41 Special: 5 - Best thing I ever played
Likes: Unbelievable guitar. I searched for years to find a guitar that sounds like a pre-war martin D-28 or 45 and I finally found it! I must have played 100s of custom built high-end guitars - but they can't touch this one at 3 times the price. I has "that" sound!
Dislikes: Are you kidding me? The only thing can think of is, I don't want to take it anywhere for fear of something happening to it.
Additional Comments: The base is incredibly deep, note separation - perfect. Boom and Jangle like you want. Sounds just like Neil Young's guitars on Live at Massey Hall. Plus the thing is beautiful!! Not so over-the-top as a D-45. Classier than a D-42. It is guitar perfection.

Dislikes: CAN'T SAY THERE IS ANYTHING TO DISLIKE.
Additional Comments: GLAD I FINALLY TOOK THE PLUNGE TO PURCHASE THIS MARTIN GEM.

Likes: Love the feel and ease of playing.
Dislikes: Not crazy about the tuning pegs being so little.
Additional Comments: I also play a D-28 herringbone that sounds just as good.

Like about the Martin D-41 Special: I like everything about a D-41 but with all of the vintage appointments and forward shifted bracing, it makes the D-41 truly SPECIAL.
Dislike about the Martin D41 Special: I really cannot find a fault with this guitar. If it were anything, and it's just me, I really don't care for the way Martin approaches binding a fingerboard, with the frat hanging over the binding. Although you sacrifice a couple of thousandths of fret length, I prefer the fret to stop with the edge of the fingerboard and the binding comes up over the end of the fret, like (gasp) Gibsons.
Additional Comments: I have been wanting a D-41 Martin my whole life. When the possibility of me getting one neared and I began earnest comparing (I also consider the investment factor as well as the playability) I considered a D-42. I had never even held a D-41 Special. It was everything I had always wanted in a D-41 plus a whole lot more. Back in the 90's I lettered my race car and team D-41 for Christ sake!

Like about the Martin D-41 Special: Deep, rich bass and baritone. Solid feel. Very responsive - jumps at flat picking.
Dislike about the Martin D41 Special: Not sure of the high E string location. Slightly too close to neck side. Just have to get used to it.
Additional Comments: Granted, I've come from a Taylor 314 MCE which is less than half the cost, but this baby is absolutely unbelievable.
