Tascam DP-01 family of Portastudios
Tascam makes recording easy with the DP-01 portastudios! There are 3 versions to choose from, starting at just $299! The Tascam DP-01 offers 8-track CD-quality digital recording in an extremely user-friendly format. If you can use a cassette recorder, you can use this machine! The Tascam DP-01 FX adds two XLR inputs and on-board effects. The Tascam DP-01FX/CD has all the features of the Tascam DP-01FX plus a built-in CD burner!
So which one should you buy? Well, that depends on how much gear you already own. If you've already purchased a mic preamp and an effects processor, then you could save some cash and get onboard for $299 with the Tascam DP-01. The sound quality is identical to its bigger brothers (Tascam DP-01FX and Tascam DP-01FX/CD) so there's no real need to upgrade. You can send your mixes to your computer for CD burning.
The next step up is the DP-01FX. It includes all the great features of the Tascam DP-01, plus two important upgrades: XLR inputs with phantom power, and on-board digital effects. If you're using a condenser microphone, you'll need the phantom-powered XLR inputs. The on-board effects processor has lots of vocal effects (reverb, de-esser, echo), guitar & bass effects (distortion, delay, chorus), and drum effects (compressor, reverb). If you don't already own an effects processor, the Tascam DP-01FX is the way to go. But what if you want to burn CDs? Both the Tascam DP-01 and Tascam DP-01FX allow you to export your music to your PC. If your computer has a CD burner already, that's one way to go. OR you could upgrade to the Tascam DP-01FX/CD!
The Tascam DP-01FX/CD has all the great features of the Tascam DP-01 and Tascam DP-01FX/CD, plus it adds the on-board CD burner. Now you can record your entire project from start to finish and when it's all over - walk away with a CD! No need to fool around with outboard preamps, effects boxes and all the cables that go with it. Just plug it in and start recording. The Tascam DP-01FX/CD is the all-in one solution.
