Rating you give the Martin D42: 4 - Highly recommend it

Likes: The D-42 has just enough elegance not to be gaudy like the D-45. But it has some appointments that the 45 does not, like the multiple fingerboard binding and the bridge inlay.

Dislikes: Can't find a thing to complain about or to want for.

Rating you give the Martin D42: 5 - Best thing I ever played

Likes: Great sound (play soft or dig in it takes anything), easy action (med/low), and down right beautiful!!

Dislikes: Price but you get what you pay for and there is not a foreign copy that can touch its sound, I looked!

Additional Comments: Mine is a 1988 D-42LE # 24 of 75. Its sounds awesome!!! and I have played A LOT of dreads. With light strings it sounds so sweat with great sustain and the low end is light so its well balanced. With med strings its a beast!! Huge bass with very clear notes all the way through. Huge difference in sound with lights to meds.

Likes: First played a well used one, sound was great.  Bought new one what a voice, easy to play, voice like an angel.

Dislikes: Right in the middle of neck is a small burr, like a pebble in your shoe, should not be there for cost.

Additional Comments: Thinking about a 00042

Like about the Martin D-42:  I have played and owned several Martins.  I like the D-42 for the deep sound and great action. The more I play it the better it sounds.

Dislikes:  It will not take itself into the gigs no matter how hard I train it.

Additional Comments:  Buy one today.

Like about the Martin D42:  A huge sound - yet tasteful, full, well balanced; a real joy to play.  An inspirational instrument and very beautifully designed and made.  The only real buzz I get is when I take it out of the case.  Roars like lion; purrs like a kitten.

Dislike about the Martin D-42:  Try as I might, I can't find anything wrong with this instrument.

Additional Comments:  I'm saving up for a top grade Brazilian rosewood model.

Like about the Martin D-42:  It has incredible action and the appointments, especially the ebony buttons, really make this guitar a "keeper for all time".

Additional Comments:  I bought it in 1988- D-42 Limited Edition, #51 of 75.  It's an unbelievable guitar.  (much nicer than the newer ones, even though they're very nice as well.)

  5 - Best thing I ever bought

Liked about the Martin D-42:  I really enjoy the ease of playing. The action is fantastic.  The sound is getting deeper as my guitar is aging.  It is now a year old and there is a marked difference in tonal quality from when I first purchased my D-42. The sound quality is excellent. You can play soft or you can drown out those you are playing along with. I can play bluegrass, pop, soft rock, jazz with great sounds. I am amazed at how much better the sound is on the D-42 than my D-1 or my 1976 Ovation 1716-2.

Disliked about the Martin D-42:  Having to change strings. That is always a pain. Each time I put new strings on, it just seems like this guitar sounds better than ever before.

Additional Comments:  If you are an avid player and looking for a guitar that will last you a lifetime, I recommend the Martin D-42.
