Truth is, you'll make the most money on your guitar if you sell it yourself. If you have access to a digital camera, and you're not in a drastic rush - it might be worth your time to try and sell it outright first. If you tried that already, or you just don't want to go that route, we have two options for you:
TRADE-IN = 1/2 current list price X 70%
CONSIGNMENT = 1/2 current list price X 80%
For example, let's say you want to trade in a super-clean 2005 Martin D-28. Current list price (Jan 2007) is $2849. Half of that is $1425. You would net 70% in trade = $997.50 ... or 80% of that on consignment = $1140. Realistically, you could probably sell it for $1300-$1400, depending on the market and the timing.
